Beneath What’s Told

“Bakit DevCom?”, a question usually  received by development communication students. Honestly, I don’t know either. We still are on the pursuit of finding our purposes, however, the talks have helped me in some way on discovering and exploring the things I could possibly do better at with the right amount of passion and perseverance.

The talk have discussed CDC’S 4 Es, namely: Empowerment, Equity, Entrepreneurship, and Environmentalism. As DevCom students, these four core principles have served as a helpful guide in reminding oneself on what the future holds for you with the course you’ve chosen. It’s not just about familiarizing yourself with the social issues, it’s about knowing one’s capabilities on how we could contribute and apply these theoretical knowledge in actual situations.

The talk that have brought the greatest impact for me is, Ms. Trina Mendoza’s discussion about empowerment. She’s truly an inspiration on how a person could possibly achieve anything as long as you push yourself enough in reaching those goals you’ve set. She was once a confused individual who’s still unsure with the path she’s going through, however, she did not get tired of discovering more of what she can do. Exposed in the media industry, she even tried scientific writing and video productions.

Throughout the talk, I’ve realized how wide the variation of professions a development communication student could explore. It’s just a matter of patience in discovering the different fields. We should always find the purpose in everything we do. The talk have helped me appreciate this course more. It’s not just about the skill as communicators, we have the power to have great impacts and bring the change in our society. Development communication is not just a stepping stone of confused individuals, it is a stepping stone onto the betterment of the nation.

Ika nga ay iskolar ng bayan, para sa bayan. Hindi lamang talino mayroon ang mga devcom students, kung hindi, kakayahang maghatid ng pagbabago para sa kapwa masang Pilipino.
